RESEARCH + DEVELOPMENT
In the first three years of the Cohort Program, Kealaʻula educators have visited over 30 separate private, public, and charter schools in both locally here in Hawaiʻi and in the continental United States. In addition our educators each year have the opportunity to interact with innovative college and university programs as well as with industry leaders in technology, entrepreneurship, social change, and design.
On each trip our educators are deeply engaged in data collection. Over our first three years we have generated over 5,000 lines of qualitative data, a host of statistics, and countless images and videos. After our second year a team of veteran Cohort Program volunteers worked to compile, code, and assess the data collected to publish four internal eBooks outlining major findings on what makes great schools great. With so little research on innovative techniques and even less research on private independent school settings, the data currently being compiled by the Kealaʻula Instituteʻs research and development efforts is unique in the world of education and we are looking forward to sharing our continued work with the larger community. |
